Labradorite is one of the most popular (and beautiful) stones found today, and it only takes a few moments of holding one to find out why. Turning this stone in the light will reveal incredible flashes of color ranging from all of the colors in the rainbow. Its most common color flashes are blue and gold, and its rarest is violet and orange. Here at The Gentle Jasper, we proudly offer all variations of labradorite for everyone to find the stones they want.
Geology
Labradorite is a feldspar mineral within the plagioclase series. It has the chemical composition (Na,Ca)(Al,Si)4O8. Its colorful flash, known as labradoresence, is a phenomenon caused by molecular structures within the stone scattering light, and is a unique trait that only a few stones possess.
This mineral was originally found in Labrador, Canada in 1770 by a Moravian missionary. Since then, labradorite has been found in multiple other locations across the world, including Madagascar, Finland, Australia, Russia, the United States, and India.

Metaphysical Properties
Labradorite is stone of protection, but it does not protect in the way black obsidian or black tourmaline may protect us. This stone protects us from spiritual attacks, evil eyes, and psychic warfare. It shields the auric field. Use labradorite when you want to protect your energy. It protects us from energy vampires, or people who make you feel drained, tired, and worn out from their presence alone.
Labradorite is also good for the mind. It enhances mental sharpness, intellect, inspiration, and intuition. You can use this stone while studying, analyzing, and problem solving to receive clarity and decisiveness. It opens the Third Eye, helping us become perceptive and see many of out possibilities at once.
Ultimately, labradorite makes magic happen. It strengthens our everyday rituals, prayers, and spells. It is excellent for dream work and stabilizes the energy flowing between the aura and chakras. Known as the Shaman's Stone, it can help guide astral journeys and dreams. This is a stone of power and mysticism. When you are starting your spiritual journey, this is an easy first choice for anyone looking for safety and guidance.
Lastly, this stone is also one of spiritual transformation. Use this stone when you are studying and/or starting a new spiritual path.

How to Care for Your Labradorite
Labradorite is a relatively soft stone, with a hardness of 6 - 6.5, so it can be prone to scratches and chips if handled roughly. Store labradorite in a cloth pouch or gently against stones with a similar hardness. We wouldn't recommend storing labradorite with multiple other stones of varying hardness and shapes.
Cleansing and Charging Labradorite
This stone is water safe, and can be physically cleaned in warm water with a mild soap. Energetically cleansing this stone is often best done with moonlight and in wild, running water at night. We have also found this stone cleanses and charges well when placed out in thunderstorms.
